Mandatory age verification for Brazilian Players
Due to new legislation (the Digital Statute of the Child and Adolescent, Law No. 15,211, of September 17, 2025), we will be adding mandatory age verification for users playing Habbo Hotel: Origins from Brazil.
From March, new legislation in Brazil requires stronger age verification for digital services and hence we can no longer rely on the date of birth entered by you during registration. Therefore, all Brazilian citizens accessing Habbo Hotel: Origins will need to complete age verification before continuing to play.
Note that if you are a Brazilian citizen, you will be asked to verify your age no matter which Habbo Hotel: Origins platform you are logging into.
How will it work?
After we enable the age verification feature, you’ll see an age verification screen where you must prove you are 18+ before entering the Hotel. Until this step is completed, your account will be inaccessible, and you will be unable to play Habbo Hotel: Origins.
We’re using the service k-ID to handle this verification process. They specialise in age assurance for online games and digital platforms. You will have the option to verify your age through a facial age estimation scan, AgeKey – a reusable, privacy-preserving digital age credential powered by OpenAge, or ID scan.
We do not store or see any of the details you provide during age verification – it’s all handled securely by k-ID. Details on how k-ID handles your data can be viewed through their privacy policy here: https://www.k-id.com/privacy-policy
What if I don’t complete verification?
If you choose not to verify, or you’re unable to complete the process, your account will remain inaccessible until verification is successful. Your account, items, and progress won’t be deleted, but access will be paused. An applicable restriction period may be defined at a later time.
What if I believe there has been a mistake in my age verification?
If you believe the result of your age verification is not accurate, you can always contact our Customer Support to appeal the result.
Why is this happening?
This isn’t a design choice or a gameplay change. It’s a legal requirement under new Brazilian regulations as an attempt to protect minors, and we’re required to enforce it to continue offering the service in Brazil.
When will this happen?
This change needs to take place before the legislation comes into effect in March. So please expect to be required to verify your age to play Habbo Hotel: Origins by March, 2026.
