Habbo UI design update blog
In 2022 the two mobile client releases took up a huge amount of the team’s time, my time included. Fortunately we still managed to a) bring some existing functionality from the Classic client to the Modern client and b) add brand new features like the name change feature, LTD clothing, etc. There’s lots of stuff left to bring to the Modern client, but the fantastic thing is that we’re now able to bring them to mobile and desktop players at the same time. Of course, we’ll keep polishing the desktop and mobile clients on an ongoing basis.
In terms of UI, the UI rework will for sure be one of the biggest things we work on this year. The priority is for us to optimise the UI scaling and functionality for the desktop client. The current UI scale was originally based on a mobile design, but at the same time we were trying to keep it usable for desktop too. This compromise hasn’t been optimal for our community, and for this reason separating the UI window sizes and layouts for the mobile and desktop clients has been in our plans for a long time now.
The UI rework already began at the beginning of 2022, but it got put on hold for a fair amount of time because of the extra work required for the mobile clients. In addition to this, some other important features were prioritised, too: avatar and furni info windows, the video display feature, room queuing, spectator mode, doorbell, name change feature, LTD clothing. However, this year we’ll be moving full steam ahead with it! 🚆
The Modern client UI rework starts here
Soon you’ll see the first sign of progress: our incoming update has a nice little window style update (check the above image☝️). The new window design will be closer to the classic Habbo style: lighter, more flexible and usable in different client versions. For some time you’ll still see the current mobile window layouts and sizes but we'll begin updating the ones on the desktop client, one by one. Later the main UI for the desktop client will be updated too, but it’s way too early to talk about that in any detail yet.
Anyway, it’s time to roll up our sleeves and get to work!
