Habbo Design Blog: Fantasy Village!
Yooooo Habbos, it's been a while since we walked you through one of our furni lines and the design team LOVED working on the current one. Fantasy themes are everything and with the launch of shiny new Lord of the Rings next month and yesterday's Game of Thrones prequel launch, what better time to delve into the pixelated origins of Fantasy Village? Featuring words from Kukuyit, Sparkaro and new addition to the team Knightingale.
Q: So: fantasy themes are pretty popular within the team, right? Plus the new Lord of the Rings series is right around the corner. Have you had fun with this theme personally?
Kukuyit: Yes! We have a few Dungeons and Dragons (D&D) players in the team and I’m surprised it’s been this long till we found the right time to go for this theme. If the fantasy theme does well, I feel like we might be able to pack in more things for the future like more indoor items, night life, villains etc.
Sparkaro: I love fantasy TV shows and books so this is definitely one of my favourite themes I’ve ever worked on! I’m hyped up for the upcoming Lord of the Rings and House of Dragon series, and the Dungeons & Dragons movie next year looks like fun. I’m looking forward to seeing the room designs for medieval fantasy villages and whatever else the Habbos come up with using the new furni.
Knightingale: As a new member of the team I have enjoyed being able to come in and work on a theme like this, maybe my Habbo name gives away just how much I enjoyed designing for it! I’m a big D&D fan so any chance of spreading that fantasy love to some fellow nerds I’ll take it! I hope you all love it as much as I did – maybe it will give us a chance to bring even more magic into the Habbo world again!
Q: Some of you kindly recorded a time-lapse video of yourself drawing for us. Could you walk through the item(s) you drew – what inspired you to draw that item, which films/games/TV series influenced it?
Sparkaro: I thought that a fantasy theme had to include a dragon, inspired by various shows and movies like Smaug from the Hobbit, Game of Thrones dragons and of course our own Habbo pet dragon. The design was a challenge because I pushed the limitations of the game a bit to have it so large, flying in the sky and sittable by Habbos! I wanted to make it grand and unique looking so it would really stand out in a room.
Knightingale: Gnolls deserve some love too! Since we were looking for some enemies for this setting I thought I’d give the Habbos something a little more than just your “Regular Gnoll” to tackle. I absolutely love designing and animating critters and thought that they would be something different to populate the world with! Plus what’s better than designing a furni that deserves head pats for a job well done?
Q: Do you have a personal fave from the items the whole team put together? Why is it your favourite?
Kukuyit: Can’t beat a majestic dragon and especially riding one with friends, that beast is huge!
Sparkaro: My favourite would have to be the wizard tower. I really like the fun quirky design of it, it has some nice details in the texturing and I like the array of items you see on the inside. You can really imagine it being lived in by some 300+ year old, eccentric wizard.
Knightingale: I think it’s an easy guess that I’d be most excited for the Hero Statue! Who doesn’t want a figure of a badass lady on horseback ready to charge into battle? If I could own one of those in real life, I would!
Q: For the drawing challenge, let’s see you draw either Frank or Bonnie as a hero or a villain. Go crazy.
Kukuyit: I did a pondering Frank 🧙♂️
Sparkaro: I drew Bonnie as a hero 🧝♀️
